As with any skill, learning self defence effectively requires regular practice and application. We strongly recommend to undertake Self Training at home- “practicing” and “mastering” the skills, but attend physical situational training. Only with this regimen can you gain real confidence to use and “execute” self defence in real life situations.

A message from founder of SafPRO, Mr Alvin Weong

SafPRO is not another form of martial arts. Let me give some essential information to explain. Many parents typically think the only solution to secure their child's safety is for them to learn self-defence (SD) or martial arts (MA) to ‘fight against danger’.  This thinking is not wrong but it does not actually teach children what danger really is, and how to stay safe.

In fact, many parents are aware that ‘danger could harm life and safety will secure life’ but they may not know how to teach their child about personal safety and what ‘safety first’ really means. On top of that, schools in Malaysia have yet to have any regular Safety Education in the curriculum.

As a former MA coach and judge with 25 years of experience, I see that many well-meaning parents do not understand that MA lessons are actually not suitable for children to learn safety in real-life situations such as abduction, harassment, bullying, etc.  Most MA training is focused on grading and tournaments (i.e. for sports), it is not focused on teaching children to prevent, stay away or run away from danger.

So what should personal safety training be like? Firstly, it must be easy to learn and apply.  Secondly, safety training develops self-confidence through Situational Training. MA lessons do not have these elements. There are other examples on how safety training is more than MA.

I am not talking down on MA, which has its merits and benefits. For example, MA training develops self-discipline, good health and a positive winning attitude. But, when it comes to the issue of a child's safety, MA training does not focus on the key elements of self-protection.

A key difference about SafPRO Safety Education & Training is that it discourages children or ladies to physically fight violence as a first option, as they are generally weaker and smaller in physical terms. Fighting unnecessarily risks safety and life – it may cause bad injury or death. No parent wants to see their child harmed or injured by danger. Children therefore need to know the right concept of safety. Parents love to see their child know how to prevent danger before it occurs, instead of charging headlong into danger or a fight.

You may ask, what if there is no choice but to fight to survive? Wisdom of Safety is a combination of theory and practical training and is formed by Prevention Ability and Self-Confidence. This sounds similar to MA but in reality SafPRO prepares children to stay away from danger (before it occurs) and run away from danger (when it occurs). Fighting is not encouraged and is always the last resort.

Personal safety is about keeping safe and avoiding accidents and other dangerous situations. SafPRO covers these and other related topics that could affect a child's life such as gossiping, bullying, dealing with strangers, and accidents at school or home.

安全教育也通过以【问题】的方式让孩子们明白什么是危险。因此孩子越解答危险的问题（潜在危险），就会对人身的安全有概念！
